For all these winters, my customers have been asking me: "How can I repair my dry, damaged hair?". Well why not, as the first blog, talk about winter hair. Some tips I have are things I use every winter to treat my own hair as well. Why not share it with you guys too? Here, I will give you guys some tips on how to repair your damaged, winter hair easily! :)
First of all, here is the reason why hair gets dry and static during winter. The truth is not the wind outside, it's the friendly heater indoors. Why? Because the heat will weaken our hair cuticle, and our hair fibers will peel and break.
What can you do to hydrate? If you are a busy person, you could purchase inexpensive products at your local drugstore (Walmart, Shoppers, etc.) that include natural ingredients (like Shea, Olive Oil, Argan Oil) to condition your hair. Avoid using hot tools (Curling Irons, Straightening Irons) because in this weather, they would create even MORE damage to your hair.
If you just want to cover your hair up, just throw on a hat. Make sure your hair is fully dry before you put on a hat. I would suggest using knit beanies, since they are easiest to find, wear, and to hide your hair. If you ever do need to take off your hat, just shake your hair, spray a bristle brush with some light hairspray and brush through your hair.
In the dry weather, our hair tends to literally rise, making you look like a shocked cartoon character! Thankfully, you can easily end this mess with dryer sheets. YES, dryer sheets, the ones you put in your dryer to get that scent. Just rub your fingers on the sheet, and run through your hair, and the frizz is gone.
Got split ends? That's probably the most common hair problem in this weather. You can simply protect your hair by nourishing your hair with some conditioning oil. Most of these products include natural oils, that absorbs into your hair creating a protective barrier to lessen split ends.
If you've got flat, ugly hair, you are washing it way too much. Try to wash your hair, maybe every other day, so your roots don't go heavy with all the products you're adding to it. If you have that hair that becomes oily and itchy when you don't wash it everyday, try products like dry shampoo (spray-on) that are cheap at your local drugstore. They won't weigh your hair down and you'll also get a fresh scent.
No more shiny hair? That's because your dry, rough hair doesn't reflect the sunlight nor is there much sunlight to reflect. You can add some gloss by applying some shine serum (found cheap at your local drugstore) to your hair. If you think your hair is a bit too colorful for your winter skin, try coloring it to a warmer, darker color.
If you have any suggestions, comments, or tips you want to share with everybody, feel free to leave a comment below. If you found this helpful, be sure to share it with your friends and family!
Thanks! :)
Maikey.
